WILLIAM E. AND THERESA M. RUBERT
MEMORIAL
SCHOLARSHIP TRUST

HISTORY of FOUNDING
| Rubert Trust | A
resident of Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania and coming from a
family characterized by hard work and modest means,
Theresa Macelonis Rubert entered Hahnemann School of
Nursing in 1926. Although unimaginable today, with a loan
of $5.00 from her sister, Mrs. Rubert was able to meet
her tuition expenses. Working diligently, Mrs. Rubert
completed her studies successfully and supported herself
as a graduate nurse. William E. Rubert first became known
to Mrs. Rubert as her patient in 1947 and then as her
husband. Being most appreciative of the education that her sister’s loan made possible, Mrs. Rubert’s desire was to share the same opportunity with others of similar means and ability. This led her to set up under her will, a Trust, which became active upon her death in 1989. The Trust provides scholarship money for financially needy and academically qualified persons who wish to attend Drexel University, College of Nursing & Health Professions, formerly Hahnemann University Department of Nursing Education . It also supports activities which enhance the quality of education provided by the College of Nursing. Monies from the Rubert Trust were used to bring Dr. C. Everett Koop, former Surgeon General of the United States Public Health Service to the University, October 1990, to celebrate 100 years of Nursing Education at Hahnemann. In April 2000, the Trust made possible the first "web" cast seminar by the School of Nursing. It is in this spirit of providing opportunity and demonstrating appreciation, by returning to others what has been given to you, that the William E. and Theresa M. Rubert Memorial Trust trustees seek to find qualified candidates desirous of becoming Rubert Scholars |
